Anti-corrosion tanks are ideal equipment for storing corrosive liquids, and they are commonly used to contain different concentrations of acids and alkalis including sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. Special methods and techniques are required for cleaning sulfuric acid storage tanks.
Due to the strong corrosivity of sulfuric acid, operators need to stay cautious and wear protective gloves and garments during operation. The cleaning procedure requires strict attention:
First, add sulfuric acid of a lower concentration (compared with the residual sulfuric acid inside the tank) into the tank and mix fully to absorb acid vapors in the tank space. Next, drain out the diluted sulfuric acid. Then add coal ash into the tank to solidify the acid sludge. After ventilation to disperse acid fumes, remove the ash and sludge residue. Afterwards, conduct alkaline cleaning using waste alkali solution.
This cleaning approach works for both small and large sulfuric acid anti-corrosion storage tanks.
Operators are reminded to comply with standardized operation requirements. Extra care and full protective measures are essential when cleaning tanks that stored concentrated sulfuric acid, to prevent bodily injury from concentrated sulfuric acid.
