The Complete Guide to Pinch Valve Sleeve Materials
The rubber sleeve is the heart of every pinch valve — the only component that contacts your process media. Choosing the right material directly determines valve lifespan, chemical compatibility, pressure handling, and total cost of ownership. LIANKE offers the widest range of sleeve materials in the industry with in-house rubber compounding capability.
| Material | Temp. Range | Key Strength | Best Application | Chemical Resistance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NRNatural Rubber | -40°C to +80°C | Exceptional abrasion resistance, high elasticity | Mining slurry, sand, gravel | Weak acids & alkalis |
| EPDMEthylene Propylene | -50°C to +150°C | Outstanding weather & ozone resistance | Water treatment, steam | Strong acids, alkalis, ketones |
| NBRNitrile Rubber | -30°C to +100°C | Excellent oil & fuel resistance | Petroleum, hydraulic fluids | Hydrocarbons, oils, fats |
| CRChloroprene | -35°C to +120°C | Flame retardant, moderate oil resistance | Chemical plants | Moderate chemicals & oils |
| SiliconeVMQ — SI6501 | -60°C to +230°C | Widest temp range, FDA compliant | Food, pharma, extremes | Weak acids, limited chemicals |
| HypalonCSM | -30°C to +130°C | Superior chemical & UV resistance | Aggressive chemicals | Strong acids, oxidizers |
| IIRButyl Rubber | -45°C to +120°C | Excellent gas impermeability | Gas pipelines, vacuum | Dilute acids, alkalis, gases |
Natural Rubber (NR)
Q-Grade NR — The Industry WorkhorseNatural rubber remains the most widely used pinch valve sleeve material worldwide. Its exceptional elasticity allows the sleeve to flex thousands of cycles without developing fatigue cracks. NR offers outstanding abrasion resistance — critical when handling mining slurries, sand-laden water, or gravel transport lines.
LIANKE's Q-grade natural rubber is sourced through a strategic partnership with Lanxess and Mitsui, ensuring consistent compound quality. Our NR sleeves achieve 50–60 Shore A hardness, providing the ideal balance between flexibility and structural integrity.
Limitations: Not suitable for petroleum-based fluids, strong oxidizing acids, or prolonged UV exposure.
EPDM Rubber
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer — Weather ChampionEPDM excels where temperature extremes, weather exposure, and chemical aggression converge. Its saturated polymer backbone gives outstanding resistance to ozone, UV radiation, and aging — making it the sleeve of choice for outdoor installations and water treatment facilities.
Temperature tolerance ranges from -50°C to +150°C, making it one of the most thermally versatile options. LIANKE's EPDM sleeves are formulated with premium-grade compounds to maximize flex life and minimize compression set.
Limitations: Poor resistance to petroleum oils, mineral oils, and hydrocarbon solvents.
NBR (Nitrile Rubber)
The Oil & Fuel SpecialistWhen your process involves petroleum products, hydraulic fluids, or vegetable oils, NBR is the clear choice. Nitrile rubber's acrylonitrile content provides excellent resistance to hydrocarbon-based media, making it indispensable in oil refining and fuel distribution.
LIANKE offers NBR sleeves with varying acrylonitrile content (33–40%) to fine-tune the balance between oil resistance and low-temperature flexibility.
Limitations: Poor resistance to ketones, esters, and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
Silicone Rubber (VMQ)
SI6501 Grade — Extreme Temperature & Food-SafeSilicone stands apart with its extraordinary temperature range: -60°C to +230°C. LIANKE's SI6501 grade is a high-molecular-weight formulation that meets FDA and EU food-contact regulations — non-toxic, odorless, and taste-neutral.
In food processing and pharmaceutical applications, these properties are critical. The material will not contaminate sensitive products, making it ideal for dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical transfer systems.
Limitations: Lower abrasion resistance than NR. Not suitable for steam or strong acids/bases.
